The Transition to an Assisted Living Community

December 23, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

No matter how old we are, change can be challenging. For seniors who have had just that much more time to get used to the way things are, a change in the status quo can be difficult. When faced with a change in lifestyle and residence, a person may mourn what they perceive as a loss of their independence and younger self, and the loss of a home filled with a lifetime of memories. However, regardless of how we long to keep things the same, change is a fact of life; and for many seniors, life could be better with a little daily help.

When mom or dad would benefit from the many services offered by assisted living, there are a few things families can do to help ease the transition. To start with, senior care specialists recommend making the effort to set up mom or dad’s new suite with familiar, well-loved furnishings and mementos rather than buying all new things.

Another important step toward a smooth transition is to give it time. Experts say it generally takes anywhere from three to six months to adjust to community life, but in some cases, residents settle into it quickly. If your parent is one to make a slow adjustment, remember why the move was necessary in the first place including a real concern for their safety and well-being as well as your need for peace of mind.

Some experts say it may be helpful to limit your visits and phone calls to allow your parents some time to find their own way. Also, if they want to vent about how unhappy they are, give them some space to do so. Validating their feelings can help them work through their fears and uncertainty about the changes they are experiencing.

At MorningStar of Santa Fe, our team is experienced in helping new residents feel at home and work with both them and their family to help with the transition. We offer assisted living and memory care along with luxury amenities, wellness programs and activities designed to enhance quality of life. Contact us or visit our website for more information about trusted senior living in Santa Fe, NM.

MorningStar takes tremendous pride in the reputation we have earned for excellence and authenticity since our inception in 2003.  We believe the human capacity to grow, to learn and to contribute is ageless; and we act upon that truth daily, as we care for, inspire, and love the residents under our roof. Communicating with a Loved One with Dementia

December 21, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

The Alzheimer’s Association has some effective tips for communicating with a loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia.  As the ability to find the right words or to speak at all is one of the effects of the devastating disease, it is helpful to learn some tips to make the communication process easier.

Typically, in the early stages of the disease, individuals repeat themselves often and can easily lose their train of thought.  They may start to avoid speaking and have trouble following a conversation, and may even use gestures rather than words.  Experts suggest at this stage that you make sure to address the person directly, don’t speak through a caregiver, and allow them plenty of time to answer you back.

The middle stages of the disease can signal lots of changes and usually lasts the longest.  If you wish to speak with the individual, make sure to do it in a quiet space without any distractions.  Your questions should be short and only require a simple yes or no answer, and again, look directly at the person.  In addition, you can demonstrate the task or give clear, step-by-step instructions.  Also use a soft voice and calm demeanor, and above all else, be patient and loving.

In the late stages of the disease, which can last from a few weeks to several years, the Alzheimer’s Association suggests using nonverbal forms of communication.  When entering the person’s presence, always identify yourself and use the sound of your voice to convey the meaning of your words.  Experts recommend using touch, sight, sound, smell and taste to communicate, and as always, treat the individual with respect and dignity.

At MorningStar of Albuquerque, we have suites for both assisted living and the specialized care of those with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases.  Our goal is to be the best senior living Albuquerque offers, providing residents with a lifestyle of comfort, wellness and community.  Please visit our website to learn more.

The Benefits of Assisted Living

December 21, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

Many times, a move to assisted living is not only good for the senior but for the family as well. Mom or dad living alone, perhaps already experiencing a fall or another type of health emergency, is stressful for everybody involved.

Senior living experts point out the benefits of receiving attentive senior care along with services like nutritional meals, access to meaningful programs and transportation to and from appointments. At communities like MorningStar of Santa Fe, we sit down with in-coming residents to create a Personalized Service Plan designed to help with the ADLs (activities of daily living), which include things like bathing, grooming, transferring (such as from bed to a wheelchair), feeding and toileting.

Dee Pekruhn, director of life plan communities’ services and policy for LeadingAge, the association of nonprofit providers of aging services, says, “Whether they stand alone or are part of a larger continuing care campus, assisted living communities offer a wide variety of community and social activities.” These typically include arts and crafts, physical exercise classes such as chair yoga, live concerts and other entertainment, and educational and technology classes. At MorningStar, we tell our residents if we don’t already have a class addressing one of your interests, to start one.

Special outings and trips are another component of many senior living communities including MorningStar of Santa Fe. Bus trips to local, scenic spots, or trips to shopping or cultural events are just some of the activities enjoyed by residents.

Another important service is medication management as statistics show the average older adult takes four or more prescription drugs each day, and as high as 39 percent of seniors take five or more. Medical management ensures seniors take the proper medication they need, when they need it.

MorningStar of Santa Fe has 56 stylish assisted living suites as well as 29 suites in our Reflections Neighborhood devoted to the care of those suffering from Alzheimer’s or other dementia-related diseases. Amenities include a courtyard with mountain views and kiva fireplace, strolling paths, raised garden beds, fitness room, chapel/theatre, bistro and salon.  Chef inspired meals are served all day in our full-service dining room with an open kitchen. Visit our website to see what sets our community apart from other senior housing Santa Fe, NM offers, and why our residents are happy to call MorningStar “home.”

Our mission statement of “to honor, to value, to invest” sets us apart from other senior housing Santa Fe, NM has to offer. We have built a foundation on honoring God, valuing our seniors and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve. Set in a warm, loving atmosphere with beautiful surroundings and resort-style amenities, MorningStar of Santa Fe provides outstanding assisted living and memory care.

Does a Loved One with Alzheimer’s Disease Need More Care?

December 19, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

A Place for Mom’s website offers some advice to families regarding the need for memory care for a loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. They explain early-on in the disease, many individuals are capable of living independently with family members overseeing some of their care. However, they also warn symptoms can vary from day to day and it can be difficult to know exactly when a person requires more supervision for their safety and wellbeing.

Dr. Philip Branshaw, an internal medicine specialist in Batavia, Illinois, says when speaking to families, he centers the conversation regarding additional care for their loved one on the “ability to perform activities of daily living and safety.” ADLs include things like dressing, bathing, eating and toileting.

Other questions doctors may ask to evaluate a person’s ability to live on their own include: is he or she having trouble finding their way back home from familiar neighborhood routes? Are they forgetting to eat or drink and take medications? Is the person’s safety at risk? Have they left the stove on, have unexplained bruises, or had several falls recently?

Medical experts say it is important to let the person’s healthcare providers know as soon as you suspect a problem. They can do tests to rule out other conditions that may be causing the confusion or memory loss; and take a look at the person’s medications to see if they are the problem. Also, if a diagnosis is made early-on, the person has the chance to weigh-in regarding care options down the road.

Along with assisted living, Phoenix’s MorningStar at Arcadia has 30 suites devoted to the care of those with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases.  Our holistic care is individualized for each resident and designed to stimulate or calm in response to a particular mood or situation.  Each day is filled with activities that incorporate music, dance, art, aromatherapy, or animals to heal and comfort residents.  Visit our website to learn more about our beautiful home, our team and our company’s philosophy to care.

How Prices are Structured at MorningStar’s Community in Phoenix

November 25, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

At MorningStar at Arcadia, we regularly have questions about our community from area seniors and their family members.  FAQs include how our pricing is structured as well as availability.  In assisted living, fees are based on the level of care a resident requires.  For memory care residents, we offer all-inclusive pricing, which means suite rental and care, whatever the level of need, is one price.

To calculate your level of need in assisted living, you and your family will meet with our Wellness Director and go over your medical history and personal preferences to create an individualized care plan.  This sets the basis of your Care Level (we have five) and your monthly fee accounts for the costs and time to provide the needed services.  These can include help with daily personal care activities (grooming, bathing, toileting, etc.) and medical assistance.

If you are concerned the cost of assisted living may be too high for your means, we want to remind you that senior housing can be very cost-effective as there are many things you will no longer pay for out-of-pocket.  This includes the costs of your monthly utilities.  At MorningStar your monthly fee includes cable TV & utilities, laundry facilities, and three daily meals prepared under the direction of our Executive Chef.  In addition, we have scheduled transportation every week for rides to medical appointments as well as transportation to organized activities and cultural events.

Assisted living residents also have access to a full-time licensed nurse and our loving 24-hour care staff.  Our wellness programs and activities engage and support our residents’ mental, physical, spiritual and social connections for a healthier, fuller life.

MorningStar at Arcadia’s mission is to provide the best memory care and assisted living Phoenix offers, and the comfort and wellbeing of our residents are the foremost considerations for everything we do.  Our dedicated team, the heartbeat of our community, delivers service that represents the mission and philosophy of MorningStar Senior Living - honoring God and valuing seniors as gifted and contributing individuals. Please visit our website for more information.

MorningStar takes tremendous pride in the reputation we have earned for excellence and authenticity since our inception in 2003.  We believe the human capacity to grow, to learn and to contribute is ageless; and we act upon that truth daily, as we care for, inspire, and love the residents under our roof. Are You Concerned About Your Memory?

October 26, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

\Do you feel as if memory problems are interfering with your life or have family members started to notice? Medical experts say there may be a distinction between a person noticing the memory loss and others becoming aware of it as this could signal a bigger problem and be an early sign of dementia.

The Harvard Medical School explains the best place to start understanding the problem is to talk to your doctor. While they may not have the proper training to do extensive screening for MCI (mild cognitive impairment), they can rule out other things causing your memory loss such as medications you take or a recent head injury. Steps you can take on your own to improve cognitive function include getting enough sleep each night, eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and reducing stress.

After your own physician has completed an examination, and nothing appears to explain your memory loss, it is time to see a specialist. They, or your local Alzheimer’s Association chapter or hospital should be able to recommend a behavioral neurologist or a geriatric psychiatrist. He or she will probably start with a series of written, on the computer, or oral tests to “assess memory, reasoning, attention, language, visual functions, motor functions, and social functions (such as empathy and knowing how to behave appropriately in social situations).”

They will check for “abnormalities in muscle strength, coordination, reflexes, senses, eye movement, and the pupils' reaction to light, which can signal abnormalities in specific areas of the brain.” In addition, the doctor will check for Parkinson’s, a stroke or tumors, and will probably schedule a hearing and vision test. If indicated, you may have advanced testing such as PET scans or your cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers checked for signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

Along with assisted living, MorningStar of Albuquerque has 21 suites devoted to the individualized care of those with mild to advanced memory impairment.  Our community was designed from the ground up to provide a secure setting, which allows residents to explore their spacious surroundings freely and easily.  Our specialized memory care includes finding ways to connect with and nurture the essence of the individual, and to celebrate and elevate life. After a Loved One Moves to an Assisted Living Community

October 26, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

Many times, a move to assisted living for an elderly loved one is due to an event such as a recent hospitalization for a fall or a worsening medical condition. This means the person does not have the time to process the move from a beloved home, and the sudden change may be very upsetting. Even for seniors who have had the time to plan a move into assisted living, it may be challenging.

At MorningStar at Arcadia, we know the many benefits assisted living communities such as ours afford to residents; but at the same time, we recognize any change is difficult and moving into assisted living is certainly one of those events. In addition to our own experience, experts also offer suggestions to families on how best to support their loved one during the transition.

It may ease the transition for the person to get as familiar as possible with the new community and staff before the move.  Also, after a decision is made, let your loved one decide what furniture and keepsakes they want to move with them and help them decorate.   If possible, arrange furniture and decorations in a similar way and display photos and other keepsakes to make the new place feel like “home.”

Keep in mind the person may feel abandoned, or frustrated with their perceived loss of independence and decision making, and have a hard time adjusting to a change in their routine. Give the person plenty of support during the first days and weeks at the community, but don’t overdo it. This could actually be counterproductive and prevent a loved one from making an adjustment. Instead, emphasis the move is an opportunity to start a new chapter in their life.

In some cases, seniors make a quick adjustment and recognize the advantage of no longer worrying about their homes’ maintenance or preparing meals. They like the ease of a more robust social life and feel a peace of mind knowing help is around whenever they need it. For others it may take a little more time.

In addition to assisted living, MorningStar at Arcadia offers individualized memory care, respite care (short recuperative stays) or trial stays (from a week to a full month) to see if we are a good fit.  Please visit our website for information on our company’s history, vision, and mission as well as what sets us apart from other senior living in Phoenix.

Want to Start Exercising Again?

October 17, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

If you are a senior who wants to start exercising again, you may not know how to begin.  For one thing, you probably realize you are not as fit as you used to be, and are not up to the same degree of physical activity that you once did.  And of course, before you begin any new form of exercise, you will need to check with your doctor to make sure you are fit enough, especially if you have osteoporosis, an injury, or balance issues.

Once you get the go ahead from your healthcare provider, stretching is a good place to begin.  In fact, studies show that as we grow older our flexibility decreases by up to 50 percent in some joints.  Another good thing about stretching is many exercises are appropriate for any level of fitness including ones that can be done sitting in a chair.  Stretching can help you maintain your flexibility and mobility as well as loosen up some of your stiffness in your back, neck and shoulder muscles.

Another plus about stretching exercises is that most of them do not require special equipment and can be done anywhere.  The Silver Sneakers website recommends that as you stretch, “to breathe deeply, and go slowly. Listen to your body, and never force a movement that causes pain.”  They remind seniors it is okay if they cannot bend very far as over time they will loosen up some.  Safety is always important and you do not want to hurt yourself.  Other exercises especially good for seniors include chair yoga, resistance band workouts, walking, and dumbbell strength training.

At MorningStar of Albuquerque, our beautiful community offers a whole host of amenities and care services as well as wellness programs that include exercises geared toward our residents.  We are committed to provide the best assisted living Albuquerque, NM has to offer, which includes exemplary service to our residents to ensure their utmost comfort, wellbeing and safety.  Please see our website to learn more.

This post is intended for informational purposes only.  Before beginning any exercise, be sure to check with your healthcare provider.

MorningStar is guided by a culture rooted in our mission of honoring God, valuing seniors, and investing in our team, which allows us to deliver services with warmth, sincerity and depth of purpose. We have built a reputation for creating true homes filled with an atmosphere of love and community. You’ve Made the Hardest Decision of Your Life

September 14, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

As adults, our lives do not fall short of requiring us to make difficult choices. That doesn’t stop some from feeling tougher than others.  If you have recently made the decision to move your parent or loved one into assisted living or memory care, you are probably dealing with emotions of shame, guilt, and worry. Unfortunately, the reality is that even if this is the best decision for their health and yours, the guilt and sadness can still feel looming. If you’re adjusting to this new reality, it’s important to understand why you’re feeling this way and where this guilt may have come from to better heal and accept your loved one’s new transition in life.

If you feel as though you’ve failed to care for your parent or loved one by moving them into assisted care, that simply isn’t true. You have had to make a difficult decision that required prioritizing two different levels of need. Accepting help from a facility that is suited and more knowledgeable in senior care is more selfless than you may be feeling. In assisted living, your parent or loved one will be able to have supervision, help with everyday tasks, communicate with their neighbors, and receive healthy meals all without fail. At home, you may have had to cut corners or other things seemed to fall by the wayside, leaving you to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Assisted living allows both you and your loved one to be cared for and experience relaxation.

Your parents don’t hate you. Perhaps when you were younger, they expressed the desire to never be in a nursing home or under supervised care. This sentiment may now be leaving you to feel guilty for going against their wishes. The truth is, while they may have never seen themselves within assisted care, they certainly wouldn’t want to feel like a burden to you or other family members, either. They couldn’t predict the future, and while they may be feeling a range of emotions and taking some time to adjust, they will come to understand that you made the right choice for them and you.

MorningStar of Sparks in Greater Reno is dedicated to creating a true home for its residents and helping both them and their families adjust to their new lifestyles. Contact us today to learn more about our senior living options in Sparks, Nevada. Our staff is happy to answer any questions you have. It May be Time to Consider Assisted Living

September 12, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

For many seniors, there comes a time when they feel they are not living life on their own terms, and routine, day-to-day activities start becoming more difficult. To determine if assisted living is the right choice for a parent or spouse, experts say you need to consider the amount of care they require on a daily basis. If it is more personal care than he/she can get (or afford) with in-home services or in an independent living community, yet they don’t need 24-hour medical care and supervision, assisted living is the ideal option.

People often confuse assisted living with nursing homes; however, they are not the same thing. Nursing homes provide around-the-clock skilled nursing care while assisted living provides help with the ADLs (activities of daily living) to enhance residents’ quality of life within a residential setting.

While some families may experience sticker shock when first learning the cost of assisted living, you need to consider everything it includes. For example, MorningStar of Albuquerque’s monthly fee includes property taxes, utilities, security system, and the cost of maintenance inside and out. Daily meals are included in the fee as is housekeeping, scheduled transportation and an array of activities, entertainment and outings.

At MorningStar of Albuquerque, we like to think of assisted living as providing seniors “a little help from friends” to enable them to live life as independently as possible. Our beautiful community on the northeast side of the city offers assisted living suites in a choice of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom floorplans. Onsite amenities include a full salon, bistro, theatre, fitness room, massage room, and fireside patio. For seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases, our Reflections Neighborhood is designed to meet the needs of our most tender residents.

Along with assisted living and memory care, we also offer respite care (short recuperative stays) or trial stays (up to a full month) so you can see if we are a good fit. For trusted assisted living Albuquerque, NM seniors can count on, visit our website or contact us for further information.

MorningStar takes tremendous pride in the reputation we have earned for excellence and authenticity since our inception in 2003.  We believe the human capacity to grow, to learn and to contribute is ageless; and we act upon that truth daily, as we care for, inspire, and love the residents under our roof. Fall is a Great Time to Begin a Healthier Lifestyle

August 24, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

For large parts of the country, 2022 turned out to be a very hot summer. Now that fall is around the corner, most of us can look forward to more moderate temperatures, making it easier to enjoy the outdoors. Medical experts say spending time outside has a beneficial impact on our mental health as well as boost our immune system; and a nice sunny fall day can increase our vitamin D. In addition, engaging in many types of exercise is not only more enjoyable but safer in temperate weather.

Another healthy habit to incorporate into our fall routine is getting a flu shot. While we all know the dangers of COVID-19, influenza can also be deadly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises “The single best way to reduce the risk of seasonal flu and its potentially serious complications is to get vaccinated each year, but good health habits like avoiding people who are sick, covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like flu.”

Fall is also time for healthy, immune boosting vegetables and fruits. Pumpkins are a good example of a tasty, nutritional vegetable. They are high in beta carotene, which is converted into vitamin A, as well as vitamins C, E, potassium and fiber. The versatile pumpkin can be used in everything from chili to soups, pastas, breads, drinks and yummy desserts. Moreover, don’t forget to save the seeds as they are high in plant-based protein, fiber and magnesium.

For many, one of their favorite things about fall is the start of football season and enjoying the games with family and friends. Dieticians recommend considering healthier alternatives to traditional snacks on game day such as fresh vegetables and dip, homemade trail mix, hummus with veggies and fresh fruit. Not only are they more heart healthy but may help take off a few inches from your waistline.

At MorningStar Senior Living at RidgeGate, our primary goal is to provide seniors with carefree retirement years.  Our beautiful community offers residents a safe and comfortable home to age in place while taking advantage of resort-style amenities and a broad range of meaningful activities. Residents also enjoy healthy, nutritious meals inspired by our own Executive Chef and served in our full-service dining room. Receive the Care You Need at MorningStar’s Community in Phoenix

August 24, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

Does your elderly mom or dad dismiss the idea of assisted living fearing it would end their independence and life as they know it? Do they think assisted living homes are more like nursing homes of the past? We want to reassure you and your senior loved one that assisted living communities such as MorningStar at Arcadia are not a nursing home. In fact, we do not offer skilled nursing services but rather provide assistance with the ADLs (activities of daily living), along with engaging activities and other services intended to improve and enhance quality of life.

It is important to a senior’s overall health that they receive proper care as the website Aging.com reports, “Functional status and the ability to care for oneself have a significant impact on a senior's quality of life. Unmet needs for help with activities of daily living can lead to malnutrition, poor personal hygiene, isolation, illnesses like urinary tract infections (UTIs), and falls.” In fact, studies show seniors getting assistance with the ADLs allows them to feel like they are in control of their life again and helps them regain a sense of self-worth and purpose.

At MorningStar at Arcadia, we know seniors have a lot to offer and the human capacity to grow, to learn and to contribute is ageless. We act upon this truth daily, as we care for, inspire, and love the residents under our roof. Our beautiful community offers 80 graciously appointed suites for assisted living in a variety of floorplans. In addition, the Reflections Neighborhood provides 30 secure suites devoted to the individualized care of residents with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.

We also offer respite care for those recovering from surgery or an illness, as well as short-term stays from one week up to a full month to see if we are a good fit. For trusted memory care or assisted living Phoenix seniors and their families can count on, visit our website or contact us for further information.

MorningStar Senior Living’s communities across the U.S. have a passionate commitment to serving seniors, earning a reputation for satisfaction that is second to none. If you are looking for the finest memory care or assisted living Phoenix offers, we encourage you to consider MorningStar at Arcadia.

Finding Thoughtful Gifts for an Elderly Loved One Can Be a Challenge

August 15, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

Trying to find thoughtful gifts for an elderly parent or grandparent can be a challenge.  If they live in a senior living community that provides for many of their needs or an apartment without much extra space, they probably do not need anything that takes up a lot of room or already has it.

This is where it helps to be creative, and remember gifts of your time often mean the most to an elderly person. However, there are some good gift ideas you may not have thought about and would be appreciated by your loved one. One idea for a mom or dad who loves coffee but doesn’t want to brew a whole pot is a single-serve coffee maker. Add in a few boxes of single-serve cups to use with the maker including hot chocolate or flavored coffees in a selection they would enjoy.

If they haven’t gotten a smart speaker such as an Amazon Echo yet, it can make a great gift for someone with mobility challenges as it is voice operated. They can play music, answer questions, read the news, check the weather, set alarms, control compatible smart home devices, and more. To get them started, put together a cheat sheet of verbal commands they can use.

Other ideas include a heated massage pillow to relieve neck and back pain or a sleep sound machine to help with a good night’s sleep. A gift basket filled with their favorite treats or products to pamper themselves with like fancy soaps, lotions and a couple of pairs of non-skid fuzzy socks are always appreciated. Another hit would be a recordable book from the grandkids.

For exceptional senior living, Albuquerque, NM seniors and their families are encouraged to consider MorningStar. Our all-inclusive assisted living and memory care community offers a range of luxury amenities, while providing all the warmth and welcoming comforts of home. Every suite is well designed to maximize space and options include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom floorplans. All have high ceilings, wall-to-wall carpeting, large windows and safety features such as handicap-accessible bathrooms and emergency call systems. Please contact us for more information about MorningStar of Albuquerque and be sure to ask us about our Move-in Specials.

Assisted Living and Holistic Care Available to Greater Reno

July 27, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

When it’s time for us to make the decision to move our parents or loved ones to assisted living, we may be faced with defiance or frustration; whether from our loved one or other people around us. Often, parents may feel as though they are strong enough to live without being watched over. However, if you’ve noticed an alarming change in their behavior, routine, or ability to complete household tasks alone, it may be time to discuss assisted living senior care.

An important part of providing exceptional senior assisted living services is helping residents to maintain their independence. Adults, no matter the age, don’t want to lose their ability to make decisions on their own. It is important that a senior living facility should encourage autonomy while also overseeing daily tasks, such as laundry, taking medication, and eating routine meals that are completed safely. Not only do we want our residents to complete their daily necessities, but they should also feel fulfilled and excited to start each day. To achieve that goal, MorningStar Senior Living of Sparks offers “WellStar,” our signature activities program for physical, social, spiritual and emotional wellness.

“WellStar” creates and promotes a wide array of activities for our residents at MorningStar of Sparks. Whether physical, intellectual, spiritual, or social, our Life Enrichment Teams present creative ways to stay active and productive for man’s good and God’s glory. Tapping their unique talents and experiences, some residents choose to lead special interest clubs themselves. These activities give a sense of purpose and help to build community within our senior living and assisted living residents.

Our entire team is engaged in finding ways to build that spirit of community, one loving relationship at a time. Even for respite care residents (here for a short recuperative stay) or our retreat residents (here for a trial stay), there’s the promise of new friendships. And for the most tender among us, our memory care residents, each day presents the opportunity to stimulate the brain and find moments of spontaneous joy.

To learn more about MorningStar’s “WellStar” program and other amenities we offer in Assisted Living in Reno please contact us. Our staff is happy to answer any questions you have. Our website also provides information on our company’s history, vision, and mission as well as what sets us apart from other assisted living facilities in Nevada.

The unique mission statement of MorningStar of Sparks, “to honor, to serve, to invest,” sets us apart from other senior living communities. Our foundation is built upon honoring God, valuing all seniors, and investing in staff with a felt calling to serve. Dedicated to creating a real home for residents within a beautiful setting, we encourage you to see for yourself our exceptional offering for independent and assisted living in Reno, NV.

Would Your Elderly Parent Benefit from Assisted Living?

July 25, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

Has your elderly parent spent a lot more time alone during COVID-19 and now appear to be having difficulty taking care of themselves or managing their home as they once did? For many families, the last two years have underscored the fact that their elderly loved one is not getting on as well as they did before the pandemic; and may need additional help with the activities of daily living.

We know the decision to move a family member into a senior living community is a big one. Seniors can be resistant to moving, and many hate the idea of leaving their home and everything familiar to them. However, it is an important thing to consider whether your parent’s current living situation is meeting their overall physical and safety needs; and if it doesn’t, it is time to start the conversation about the need for change.

One important thing to look for is if your loved one has had one or more falls over the last several months. The CDC reports every second of every day, an older adult (age 65+) suffers a fall in the U.S.—making falls the leading cause of injury and injury death in this age group. Every year, about three million older adults are treated in an emergency room for injuries suffered in a fall. In addition, does their home have stairs they must use, or do they have a problem getting up from a chair or out of bed. Also, take a good look at mom or dad’s appearance. Are they looking disheveled or is the house looking neglected?

If mom or dad does need help with the ADLs (activities of daily living) and would benefit from more socialization, MorningStar at Arcadia is a trusted senior community.  Our home offers private suites available in a range of configurations and floorplans; and residents receive 24-hour care, access to a full-time licensed nurse, medication management, care plan reviews and other services. Amenities include all-day dining; life enrichment room; bistro; general store; fitness room; salon; theatre; and fireside courtyard with fountain. In addition, our Reflections Neighborhood offers those suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia individualized memory care. For the finest memory care or assisted living Phoenix offers, please contact us or visit our website for more information.

MorningStar takes tremendous pride in the reputation we have earned for excellence and authenticity since our inception in 2003.  We believe the human capacity to grow, to learn and to contribute is ageless; and we act upon that truth daily, as we care for, inspire, and love the residents under our roof. MorningStar of Albuquerque Offers Experienced Memory Care

July 20, 2022 by MS Arcadia in assisted living

MorningStar of Albuquerque is proud to offer exceptional assisted living and memory care.  Our parent company, MorningStar Senior Living, operates senior living communities throughout the Western U.S.  This means MorningStar of Albuquerque benefits from the extensive knowledge and expertise our company has gained in their 18 years of operation regarding all facets of senior living, including a deep understanding of Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases.

MorningStar has earned a reputation as trusted dementia care specialists, and we feel it is our calling to provide care to our most special residents.  By devoting a separate area to memory care called Reflections Neighborhood, residents have the independence to safely move about their expansive surroundings.  To ensure our residents safety and well-being, services include daily health monitoring and around-the-clock staffing as well as a secure patio and courtyard to allow them to enjoy being outdoors.

Once a resident joins our MorningStar family, we meet with them and their family to get to know as much as we can about them including their history, vocation, talents, and preferences. From there we create a daily routine designed to stimulate or calm as a situation requires. Residents are also treated to tempting meals consisting of finger foods and family-style dining for a stress-free, companionable dining experience.

Our holistic approach to memory care is encompassed under the expanse of possibilities we call “Lavender Sky,” and is how we thoughtfully enter, embrace and explore the entirely different and isolating world of dementia.  Providing loving support for our residents, we enter with insight and intentionality as we step into their “purple world” and cross over the physical and emotional boundaries that would otherwise separate us.  We also feel it is our job to help support our residents’ families.  Along with education, we show them how to follow our lead and enter into the world of their loved ones.

We accept residents in the earliest stage of the disease right through to those in more advanced phases that require the highest level of care.  Furthermore, everything we do is in a loving environment that affirms the dignity and value of the individual.  For trusted memory care or assisted living Albuquerque, NM area seniors can count on, visit our website or contact us for further information.

MorningStar of Albuquerque proudly provides the very best in senior living with our unique mission statement of “to honor, to serve, to invest.” With a foundation built on honoring God, valuing all seniors and selecting staff with a felt calling to serve, we create a true home for residents amid a beautiful setting. Please contact us for more information about the finest memory care and assisted living Albuquerque, NM offers.
